trl juniors touch football for kids

What is TRL

Juniors?

TRL is a fun, non-contact and inclusive sport for children. With TRL your child will be able to kick, run and pass to their teammates in a fun and safe environment with a coach to teach them every step of the way. TRL bears the closest resemblance to Rugby League out of all the touch football codes.

TRL is already played by over 3,000 adult teams each year across Australia….and it is time the next generation got to experience the fun as well!

FAQs

Please note the answers to the following questions are subject to change. If you have any queries, please contact us below or visit our Terms and Conditions.

It's just my child, will you put them in a team

Yes, absolutely! Register for your child's age range and we will put them in a team.

What are the divisions?

Most regions will have the following divisions. Please check your preferred competition page for confirmation. It is important to note that divisions may change pending final registration numbers.

  • Under 8s (children born 2020 & 2019 inclusive)
  • Under 10s (children born 2018 & 2017 inclusive)
  • Under 12s (children born 2016 & 2015 inclusive)
  • Under 14s (children born 2014 & 2013 inclusive)

Note: if you are unsure which division to register for, please contact your Club Manager.

What is the format? What time does it start and finish?

It is an eight (8) week season. Round one (1) will be a practice round (or skills and drills for Under 8s), followed by round games and finals. If teams do not make the finals, there will be wildcard games. All teams will play eight (8) games.

All timeslots will be 40 minutes. The exact start and finish time will be released once we know how many teams are going to be participating, and once the draw has been constructed. Please check your Club page for more details.

How many in a team?

A team must have a minimum of 8 players. If your team does not have 8 players, TRL will add individuals to meet the minimum number. A team should have no more than 10 players to maintain game enjoyment.

How do I know what team my child is in?

Before the season commences, and once we have received all registrations, we will be in touch with your child’s team details.

Is it for boys and girls?

Yes. All competitions will be open competitions (meaning boys and girls will play side by side - there will be no separate boys and girls divisions this season).

My child wants to play with their friend/s, can they be on the same team?

The best way to ensure they’re together is to register as a team. However, if you do not have enough players, please register as an individual, and email us with your request. We will do our best to ensure they are placed in the same team.

Is parent involvement required?

We encourage parents to take an active role in helping us organise the children each week. We will provide a referee/coach on each game but we ask that for every under 8s game, there is a team manager (must be a parent) to ensure all children get a go and provide general direction.

For all age groups, parents will need to help monitor and manage subsitutions.

When can I join and when does it finish?

You can join anytime. Check your Club page for season dates and chat to your Club Manager if the season has started. TRL Juniors runs in term time and does not run during school holidays unless otherwise advised.

What happens once I have registered my child?

You will receive a Registration welcome email confirming what you have signed up for. Please read this email carefully. If you have received this email it means your child is able to participate in the program.

Is the Club Shirt compulsory?

No, it’s not compulsory but if you are interested in purchasing, please make sure you do this during registration.

If you have ordered a shirt, you will receive this at the fields, when the season commences.

What does my child need to bring?

Hat, wattle bottle, sunscreen, Club Shirt (or appropriate playing attire) and enclosed shoes – e.g. footy boots.

Will there be any tackling?

There will be no tackling in TRL Juniors. We are a non-contact, safe and inclusive sport for children.

Is there training as well as games?

It is a social competition and the TRL staff and referees will teach the children how to play the game as the season goes on.

Under 8s will have a drills and skills week in round one.

Do they have to know how to play TRL or a format of Touch Football before commencing?

No, it is a social competition and they will learn from the TRL Juniors staff, and their peers, as the season progresses.

Can the children train outside of regular game/training?

Yes, absolutely! If the kids are keen to come early or stay late to train, you can certainly organise that amongst yourselves. We suggest exchanging details with other parents via WhatsApp or similar platforms to stay in touch.

What happens in the event of wet weather?

In the event of wet weather, the season will be extended or double rounds will be played.

What happens if my child misses a week?

Due to the nature of the scheduled season, we are unable to apply session credits or refunds for a missed week.

Is there insurance?

Yes, we have both Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance, please email office@trljuniors.com.au if you wish to source our Certificate of Currency.

Do Coaches have First Aid & a Blue Card?

Yes – all TRL staff have current First Aid, CPR & Working With Children Accreditations. Referees also hold valid Working with Children Checks. It is important to note however that all children must still have parental supervision when attending each session.
